Does the NFC & QR code tag need a battery or an app?

No. The NFC chip is passive and needs neither a battery nor charging. No separate TierDa app is needed for the QR code either; NFC or the standard smartphone camera and a browser are enough.

Is an NFC & QR code tag a GPS tracker?

No. NFC and the QR code do not show a live location. In the event your animal is found, a scan via NFC or QR code makes the contact and animal information you choose to share available in the finder profile.

Why do I need TierDa if I already have a GPS tracker?

A GPS tracker and TierDa serve different purposes and can complement each other. You can usually see a GPS tracker only in your own app, provided that its battery, reception and connection are working. If your animal is found, the helper can open the TierDa tag via NFC or QR code and see the information you have chosen to share. They need neither your tracker app nor access to your GPS account.

What happens if the battery is empty or there is no signal?

A GPS tracker needs power and a working connection. The TierDa tag itself needs no battery: the NFC chip is passive and the QR code can be scanned with the smartphone camera. An internet connection is required to open the finder profile.

Can a finder see my GPS location?

No. The TierDa tag does not transmit a location and does not give access to your GPS account. After a scan, the helper sees only the information you deliberately release in the finder profile.

Why is TierDa helpful when an animal is found?

A tracker helps you with your own search. But if someone else meets your animal first, they normally cannot read your tracker. The TierDa tag gives that person a direct route to contact you in the browser, without an app, login or access to your location data.

After purchase, connect your tag to your TierDa profile and add the details you want. Then attach the tag to a collar, harness or a suitable companion for everyday use.

Can I pass a TAG on to someone else?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Remove the TAG from your account in the TierDa protection portal tierda.me. First unlink an animal TAG from its animal profile; an emergency keyring or card can be removed directly in section 3. You receive a new activation code, which you can copy or print and pass on together with the TAG. The old code is then invalid. Your profiles stay stored in your account and are not transferred. The new connection is private initially.
